This high quality scheme, located on a prominent corner site on Peckham Road in Southwark, will reactivate the street frontage and make an important contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the area.
The clients brief called for a distinctive and dynamic building with an open and inviting character which would embody the core principles of the Pentecostal faith whilst becoming an integral part of the local community.
The proposed design balances large areas of glazing against a robust façade of imprinted concrete. This approach will facilitate a sense of performance, encouraging a direct dialogue between the internal spaces and the street outside, whilst maintaining a sense of enclosure and protection.
At ground level, a colonnade wraps around the building to address the main approaches.
It links and defines the main entrance points, whilst setting up a strong rhythm with a unifying ecclesial aesthetic, which was inspired by the traditional cloisters and colonnades found on Churches around the world.
